Sikh clerics direct Parkash Singh Badal to save Balwant Singh Rajoana 


AMRITSAR: Sikh high priests on Friday directed Shiromani Akali Dal (B) patron and Chief Minister, Punjab Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar to meet President of India and put efforts for the unconditional release of Balwant Singh Rajoana, currently on death row in case of assassination of former Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh. 

The Sikh clerics decision was announced by Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh from the rostrum of Akal Takht after holding nearly 7 hours long meeting at Akal Takht secretariat. 

As many as 250 Sikh, religious social and political organizations had submitted their written suggestions with the Sikh high priests on saving the life of Balwant Singh Rajoana. 

The Sikh clerics also awarded the title of 'Jinda Shaheed' (living martyr) upon 
Balwant Singh Rajoana and 'Quomi Shaheed (national martyr) upon Dilawar Singh , a suicide bomber who had blown himself up for killing Beant Singh on August 31, 1995.
